Evolence - A New Longer Lasting "No Bruise" Collagen Dermal Filler

Evolence is a next generation collagen filler with. The product provides several benefits for injection correction of wrinkles:

  • highest level of bruise avoidance
  • most minimal of post injection swelling-
  • double the duration of previous collagens
  • no collagen pre-testing

One of the primary benefits of collagen is the minimal post injection side effects such as bruising and swelling. The earlier collagens Cosmoderm, Cosmoplast and the original Zyderm collagens work great, but only for a few months.

Zyderm and Zyplast bovine collagen required pre-testing and patients had to wait weeks to see if they "passed" the allergy sensitivity tests. Once a decision has been made to use a filler, most patients don't want to wait for testing.

Patients also demanded more longevity for their injection dollar. The response from the dermatology industry was the hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. The tradeoff  with the HA fillers has been some swelling and along with that an increase in potential bruising. (More about the differences below)

With the development and FDA approval of Evolence, collagen has once again re-entered the filler market. Derived from porcine sources, it may not be a selection for everyone, but for the broad market, Evolence is a great addition to the available choices.

Evolence has been used in Canada, Europe and other countries since 2004 and has a proven safety and duration record with effects lasting 6 to 12 months.

How is Evolence different from Hyaluronic Acid Fillers?

Dermal fillers that use hyaluronic acid (HA) absorb water and hold water to create their effect. So from the perspective of action, HAs are collagen substitutes and Evolence is a collagen replacement.

Evolence is a true structural agent that utilizes a three-dimensional collagen matrix. The primary hyaluronic gels like Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane all work very well to smooth wrinkles and fill deep lines and folds. The choice of fillers is a matter of preference because the end result is the same.

What is the upside of Evolence?

This collagen structure benefits patients as it is directly linked to the minimal bruising and swelling that might result. EVOLENCE® does not use chemicals for cross-linking like many other products do, but instead uses natural sugar to improve durability. The duration of Evolence is very similar to the hyaluronic gels.

What is the downside of Evolence?

Really, the only possible "downside" for some may be the source of Evolence. Because Evolence is derived from porcine sources, some will prefer to stick with the hyaluronic gels which are not sourced from animals. The same collagen sources for Evolence have been used for many years to replace heart valves since the tissue compatibility with humans is so high.

Anything else I need to know about Evolence?

Yes. Evolence requires skilled injection technique. Make sure your physician or injection nurse has been STAR certified. Dr. Pilest has close to 3 decades as an injection specialist and is a trainer for Radiesse, Juvederm and Botox and is of course a STAR certified physician.
