Fraxel created the technology behind fractional laser applications. By treating skin with microscopic laser columns instead of full surface tissue removal, patients can access the benefits of the gold standard in skin resurfacing - CO2 Laser - without the lengthy downtown and recovery.

Just as with standard Fraxel, the new Fraxel Re:pair leaves untreated areas around each treatment zone to accelerate healing. The big advantage of the Re:pair is the use of carbon dioxide laser beams which not only affect wrinkles and discolorations, but have the ability to tighten skin by altering the weakened collagen in the skin found in the dermis.

Fast Healing with Minimal Downtime
Healing is quick with most patients experiencing only a 3 to 5 day downtime. Following 2nd treatments, healing has proven to be even quicker. Redness lasts from 1 to 4 weeks on average, though varying levels of pinkness may last longer which can be balanced by use of a mineral makeup. With the Fraxel Re:pair there has been no scarring and no hypopigmentation (pigment loss) which was a problem with older laser technology.

The new Re:pair system allows area treatments without the telltale demarcation, so even having a small area around the lips means there is no "white -out" that told the world you'd had resurfacing done.

Note: Because the Fraxel Re:pair affects deep dermal tissue (this is what makes it so effective) this laser treatment cannot be performed on top of recently-placed dermal wrinkle fillers. A 2-month waiting period after fillers is required so as not to break down the filler material.

One of a kind FDA Clearance
Fraxel re:pair laser system has received the industry's only FDA 510(K) clearance for a fractional ablative laser system for treatment of wrinkles, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented areas and vascular discoloration.

Clinical studies included 400 patients from 10 top clinical centers across the nation

The Fraxel Family
Fraxel Re:pair  Fraxel Re:store or Fraxel Re:fine - Which one for me?

Fraxel comes in three "flavors" -

Fraxel Re:fine is a light resurfacing for younger skin with superficial sun damage or lines not caused by aging.

Fraxel Re:store, which has been our flagship resurfacing system since the beginning of fractional technology, is an over all moderate-level treatment for pigmentation, skin tone, lines and acne scarring which requires multiple sessions for adequate improvement.

Fraxel Re:pair is the procedure of choice for age-related deep lines, hard-to-erase lip lines, more pronounced photodamage and sagging face and neck skin. Because the technology behind the Re:Pair allows for deep dermal laser penetration, the benefits of this CO2 based resurfacing system have greater response potential.
Fraxel re:pair treatment does involve some downtime, usually 3 to 5 days depending on the energy strength and depth of laser delivery required.

Fraxel Information from Reliant Technologies
The Fraxel re:pair system provides the industry's first and only Fractional Deep Dermal Ablation (FDDA(TM)) treatment, which leads to tissue contraction, tightening and collagen remodeling. The Fraxel re:pair laser removes and eliminates aged and damaged skin without the prolonged downtime and adverse reactions associated with conventional ablative resurfacing lasers (also known as CO2 or erbium YAG lasers) and surgical procedures.

The Fraxel Re:pair system treats a portion of the skin's surface and leaves the surrounding areas intact to allow for rapid healing. With FDDA treatment, the skin is ablated and coagulated in deep (up to 1.6 mm) columns called Microscopic Treatment Zones (MTZ). The Fraxel re:pair laser's high speed optics allow these MTZ to be spaced across the skin's surface to provide even, thorough tissue tightening for effective resurfacing.

Reliant Technologies, Inc., the pioneer of fractional skin resurfacing and market leader in aesthetic medicine, today announced that its Fraxel re:pair laser system has received the industry's only FDA 510(K) clearance for a fractional ablative laser system for treatment of wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia. The Fraxel re:pair system, initially cleared for ablation, coagulation and skin resurfacing in May, 2007, becomes the only fractional ablative resurfacing system cleared by the FDA for specific indications of use.

FDDA treatment is safe to treat even delicate areas such as the neck and chest due to its tissue sparing design. In contrast, conventional bulk ablative laser skin resurfacing ablates 100 percent of the epidermis and therefore is too aggressive to treat the neck and chest, which often leaves patients with an undesirable line of demarcation and can lead to hypopigmentation.

Physician Comments on the new Fraxel Re:pair

Zakia Rahman, Stanford University

"Fraxel re:pair treatment provides dramatic results that patients and clinicians want without the considerable risks and recovery time that come with traditional CO2 lasers and surgical procedures," said Zakia Rahman, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, and medical director of the Fraxel([R]) Laser Clinic.

"For patients who have spent years in the sun or smoking and wish to have tighter, smoother, and more even skin tone, the Fraxel re:pair laser provides a safe and effective resurfacing solution."

A. Jay Burns, University of Texas Southwest Medical Center

"In my 20 years of using lasers, I have not seen an ablative technology safely capable of targeting all of the elements of severe photodamage on and off the face, including the delicate neck and chest regions. It is now possible with the Fraxel re:pair system," said A. Jay Burns, MD, assistant professor of plastic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and past president of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.

Christopher Zachary - Department of Dermatology UC Irvine

"The results we are achieving with the Fraxel re:pair system are remarkable by any standard. Results approach that of a facelift, with very few complications and limited downtime," said Christopher Zachary, FRCP, chair of the Department of Dermatology, University of California at Irvine.

"The Fraxel re:pair system produces significant tissue tightening, wrinkle reduction and textural improvement, both on and off the face."

Orange County Register Article

The Fraxel re:pair laser is a minimally invasive, ablative fractional laser system that delivers treatments at depths from 300 micrometers  to 1.6 mm into the dermis.

For more severe rhytids and furrows the Fraxel Re:pair stimulates new collagen and elastin production deep into the dermis. Treatment is delivered with the safety and proven efficacy of the Fraxel brand.

Its advanced optics can deliver thousands of microscopic treatment zones up to 2.5 times faster than any other ablative fractional device It is also the only system clinically demonstrated to create zones of treatment beyond 1.5 mm that are spaced evenly across the skins surface. In one treatment session, the Fraxel re:pair treatment results thorough tissue tightening, a uniform appearance and effective resurfacing.

Extensive Clinical Study "The Fraxel re:pair laser system is the most technologically advanced tool available for a physician today. Reliant's rigorous scientific development of the Fraxel re:pair laser is backed by data from more than 400 treatments conducted at 10 top clinical centers nationwide," said Anja Krammer, vice president of marketing for Reliant Technologies.

"Unlike other devices on the market, only the Fraxel re:pair system uses state-of-the-art technology that integrates the proprietary Fraxel Intelligent Optical Tracking system with a CO2 laser source. With just one hand piece, physicians can now effectively treat a broad range of conditions." - Source Reliant Technologies
